Global Plastics Treaty Now!

From the enchanting waters of the Mediterranean Sea to the remote Antarctic, plastic pollution is everywhere. It is in the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breath. Plastic starts polluting the moment it's created, impacting our oceans, our climate and the health of our communities.

But right now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end the plastic crisis.

At the United Nations Environmental Assembly in March 2022, governments officially adopted a mandate opening negotiations for a global, legally-binding plastics treaty to address the whole lifecycle of plastics.

The negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty have started. The future treaty has a huge potential to put the world on a path towards a plastic-free future but it will be up to us to make sure that it delivers on its promises.

We demand an ambitious and strong global plastics treaty that significantly reduces plastic production and use while advocating for strong financial mechanisms to support its implementation. A strong plastics treaty will deliver a cleaner, safer planet for us and for future generations.

People around the world are calling for a strong global treaty that would:

  • End plastic pollution at its source to protect the environment and our health.
  • Reduce plastic production and support reuse targets.
  • Ensure a fair and inclusive transition to a low-carbon, zero-waste economy.
  • Reduce inequality and prioritize justice and the interests of communities most affected by plastic pollution.

Help us make this a reality. Ask the MENA leaders to champion a strong and ambitious Global Plastics Treaty during upcoming negotiations so that we can finally turn off the tap and end the age of plastic.
